I don´t know if that´s true, but I think it was just to show that Lois suddenly didn´t hate Piama anymore. Before they went to the family reunion she was always unfriendly to Piama, but "thanks to" Hal´s relatives she realized what it´s like to be treated badly by your husband´s family. So she tried to be nice to Piama and therefore asked her that question. (That´s at least what I think)

I know, but I thought they were all just surprised. On their way to the family reunion Lois didn´t even want Piama to sit in their car (she said something about too few seats in the car, though it wasn´t true). So I think everyone looked at each other because they were so surprised. It´s true that she wasn´t nice to her in later episodes, but in that moment she was because she had been in a similiar situation as Piama some hours ago. Later she probably forgot about it and that´s why she was mean, again. I think it was a good ending because during the whole episode we could see how Lois felt pretty bad because she was treated so badly, but at the same time she treated Piama the same way. And in the end she finally realized (at least in that episode)
