Thoughts on (the new) James Bond

Having seen the unvailing of the new JB, Daniel Craig today I wondered what other people's thoughts on the matter where.

To me he looks like he could be quite a good candidate for the Bond role, although personally I would have prefered a final Pierce Brosnan film! :D

There is news article over at the BBC website on him
Latest Bond 'not shaken' by media

My personal favourite Bonds have to be Sean Connery and Pierce Brosnan, and my favourite films You Only Live Twice and Goldeneye.

Any other Bond fans here?

I'm not really a fan of the James Bond movies as they are very cheesy. In general, they seem to be more about the number of women he can sleep with throughout the duration of the movie as apposed to spy stuff.

Another thing: James Bond is supposed to be a "secret" agent; yet he always drives around in a top of the range expensive Aston Martin that anyone else seldom sees on the roads and constantly wears an elegant dinner suit. Just how conspicous is that supposed to be?

Daniel Craig is a good actor, He is in Munich, which I really want to see.

I was reading in the paper on Sunday that this film is said to be more romance than usual, which doesn't sound that great as I fell that sometimes they have let the romances take over the stories. The article was saying that DC and the female actress Eva something (cant remember) where happy to be doing extensive romance seens but only under high security to stop photos coming out. The article went on to say that if they wanted to keep it at a 12 rating they would be cutting alot of the romance scenes out. I have high hopes that DC will make a good Bond, but he might just be a one off. I'm very glad that Clive Owen didn't go for Bond though, I think that as an actor he is to dull in everything he does. He was OK in Sin City but at times his narating was so dull and liveless, which I know was sort of the point, but others in tha film like Bruce Willis had alot more feelings added.

Yeah I am a fan of the Bond movies and I do prefer the older ones to some of the newer ones, but I have to say that Sean Connery was the best!

Unlike some people on the net(case in point: craignotbond.com), Im gonna give the guy a chance. Does he look like Bond? No, but it doesn't mean he won't give a great performance. And I like how in this film they go back to Bond's earliest mission to Casino Royale(which was actually the first Bond book, not Dr.No).
And yes, Im a huge Bond fan!:D I have almost all of Ian Fleming's novels that inspired the movies, Ive seen all the movies too. My favorite Bond was without a doubt Sean Connery. My second favorite was Pierce Brosnan(although Roger Moore was pretty good too). My 5 favorite Bond movies are in this order:
1-Goldfinger
2-Goldeneye
3-You Only Live Twice
4-Living Daylights(timothy dalton wasn't too bad!:D )
5-Die Another Day

In my opinion Die Another Day is by far the worst Bond film ever. After having seen it I was really pissed.

Nevertheless I'm a big Bond fan, too, although I only read 2 of the novels. But I have all movies taped on video and hve 3 more novels that I haven't read yet.
And I also think that we should give Craig a chance and not judge him before we have even seen him as Bond. Well, I'm really excited about the new movie, can't wait until I can watch it... :)

I read GoldenEye and The World is not enough, and I still got Goldfinger, On her Majesty's Secret Service and The Spy who loved me, which I haven't read yet.

I didn't mind Die Another Day. It was different but not too bad. Although i think The World is Not Enough and Goldeneye were both better.

Which two novels have you read? I have read Casino Royale, Dr No, From Russia with Love, Thunderball, On her Majestys Secret Service and Live and Let Die (although i had to read it for school and write about 10 essays on it in 2 days so i was rushing like hell to get it finished.). I'm going to read You Only Live Twice next, the last of the Blofeld Triology, whenever i get enough time.

You HAD to read a Bond book for school? Awesome!:D Oh, and by the way, my favorite of all James Bond books is Casino Royale. Wan't too long, wasn't too short, and it had a great story!

Funny, my library is the exact same way, nothing good and the good stuff is too long and since we only get a week to read the book on top of other work...well, you get my drift.:)
And @Dabney, why did "Die Another Day" piss you off?

It didn't feel like James Bond anymore. Only totally exaggerated action scenes and all the time bad computer animations which were that bad that you could tell everytime that they made it on computer. And I didn't like the story too much, too. Okay, Halle Berry at the beach was HOT!, but all in all this film was just terrible.

Oh come on, it wasn't THAT bad...okay, most of the stuff looked like CGI but still...
Oh and what you said about Halle Barry made me wonder...who is everyone's favorite Bond girl? I actually have 2. I liked Honey Rider in Dr.No(VERY good looking woman) and Mary Christmas:)D ) in "World Is Not Enough."

Oh I have to add one more Bond girl-Natalya from "Goldeneye." I thought that Russian accent was so cute!:D
My favorite bad guy was probably Mr.Big from "Live and Let Die". He was just a weird dyabolical man(as was his henchman, the voodoo guy. He freaked me out)!

Alittle bit of diversity is good:D , theblinddevil- this new movie sounds really good, thanks for posting the spoiler. I'm really looking foward to seeing this at the pictures. I think Daniel Craig will make a really good Bond, especially from the trailer I saw when I went to see the Di Vinci Code:D

Urgh.. Blonde Bond??

but Sean Connery and Pierce Brosnan where amazing

my top 5:

1: Goldeneye
2: Only live twice
3: Goldfinger
4: Die Another Day
5: Moonraker

I cant stand either World is not enough or Tommorow never dies. One of them is soo bad but i cant put my finger on it. One is really good

Lol, I didn't hate them, but I agree that WINE(World is not enough) and TND(tomorrow never dies) weren't the greatest Bond movies. They aren't too terrible, though.:D

Honestly, I'm not happy to see Daniel Craig as the new James Bond, even though I'm not a big Bond fan.
I liked Pierce Brosnan and I would have loved to see him too in the next Bondfilm...but well...

I agree with this, I thought Pierce Brosnan was very good in the role of James Bond. I don't know Daniel Craig but I don't think he 'll be better.

Anyways, I didn't like the latest Bond movies.
(The last James Bond movie I enjoyed was Tomorow never dies, and my favourite is Goldeneye, I love the cold open with the DB5 and the F355).

I could explain this by the fact we can no more believe in what happens during the movie: in the 1960's, Bond gadgets were strange, but it could be real (remember there was a screen showing a map in his Aston Martin, it looked very strange, but now many people have a GPS in their cars. He also had small cameras and stuff like that, that was impressive but most of it can be bought everywhere now)
But the gadgets in the latest films are simply unbelievable. I don't think we could buy a car that becomes invisible by pressing a button in the future !

During 40 years James Bond was a detective movie, now it's becoming a "fantastic" movie and I don't really like it.

To my mind, what they call "new James Bond movies" are good movies, but not real James Bond movies like Ian Fleming thought about it !
