My Sexiest Year is a film starring Frankie Muniz and has been long awaited. It recently premièred and here is the first review.

A '70s-set flashback to a teen's sexual initiation by a beautiful, compassionate older woman, "My Sexiest Year" smacks of the 70s ("Summer of '42," anyone?), before such delicate vignettes were torpedoed in the '80s by "Fast Times at Ridgemont High" and even the raucous, ostensibly '50s-set "Porky's." Uneasily combining Neil Simon-esque childhood memoir with contempo puberty comedy, helmer-scribe Howard Himelstein's nostalgic wallow is rescued by the considerable talents of its colorful cast. Still, the flaccid ThinkFilm pickup may flounder with the under-60 set.

Seventeen-year-old budding writer Jake (Frankie Muniz, in a sweeter, less ironically dysfunctional variation on his titular "Malcolm in the Middle" persona) is sent to Miami by his secretly ill mother (Frances Fisher, evoking an entire loving Brooklyn childhood in a few short scenes) to stay with his estranged dad Zowie (Harvey Keitel), a feckless racetrack handicapper.

En route south, Jake is befriended by a perpetually high rich kid (Ryan Cabrera), who introduces Jake to the affluent "in" crowd at school as the son of a famous racehorse owner. Unable to come clean, the modest Brooklyn boy is soon respected by all, though he neither smokes, drinks nor drawls.

Meanwhile, on the beach, a group of international models have set up a shoot, including blonde beauty Marina (a luminous Amber Valletta), whose drop-dead good looks are matched only by her melancholy kindness. Responding to Jake's innate chivalry, Marina soon takes him under her wing and into her bed, fulfilling his every fantasy, particularly when she shows up at school the next day for a farewell kiss.

Pic is an odd mishmash of motley ingredients from disparate genres and different eras. Zowie, sinking under a streak of bad luck, struts his dignity in Damon Runyon-esque run-ins with an old loan-shark pal and his disrespectful minions. Keitel's slow conversion -- from fear that his kid may be "light in the loafers" to admiration for his talent -- profits greatly from the actor's obvious enjoyment of his character's comically swaggering obtuseness.

Marina and her fellow models conjure softcore sexploitation flicks, while the high school kids rep an idle rich defined solely by clothes, cars and drugs. And Jake's sensitive writer could have sprung from any decade.

When pic stays securely locked inside its flashback, its male-fantasy anomalies remain fairly innocuous. The same can't be said of its framing present-tense story, in which Jake is now a bestselling author.

Tech credits suffer slightly from pic's uncertain period reconstruction.

As we have reported previously, Frankie's film My Sexiest Year premièred at the Hamptons International Film festival and OK! Magazine where there and have just released their write up of the event.

It was a sexy feast for the cast of My Sexiest Year at the Hamptons International Film Festival. Harvey Keitel, Daphna Kastner, Frankie Muniz and model-turned-actress Karolina Kurkova dined at Prime 103 to toast the premiere of their coming-of-age dramedy and OK! joined them for the four-course meal........On the menu were steak, salmon and lobster risotto, topped off with banana spring rolls for dessert, and everyone scarfed the dishes down.

As for Frankie, he's finally back at work in the field that made him a household name after a two-year sabbatical. Following Malcolm in the Middle's cancellation, the 21-year-old turned his focus onto his first love of race car driving and currently competes in the Champ Car Atlantic Championship.

"I love being an actor but if I had to choose one over the other, I’d definitely pick racing cars."

Read a review of the film here, and see more pictures from the premier here.

There is supposedly more information/pictures in the magazine it's self so if anyone can get a copy and do some scans and post in the forum, that would be great.

Still no release date.

<em>My Sexiest Year</em> starring Frankie has <a href="http://www.malcolminthemiddle.co.uk/2007/09/16/on-the-set-of-frankies-my-sexiest-year/">been</a> <a href="http://www.malcolminthemiddle.co.uk/2007/11/25/frankie-munizs-my-sexiest-year-review/">on</a> <a href="http://www.malcolminthemiddle.co.uk/2007/11/04/frankie-muniz-malcolm-my-sexiest-year-update-photos/">the</a> <a href="http://www.malcolminthemiddle.co.uk/2007/10/07/premiere-of-frankie-munizs-my-sexiest-year-at-film-festival/">radar</a> <a href="http://www.malcolminthemiddle.co.uk/2007/12/12/ok-magazine-on-frankie-muniz-and-my-sexiest-year/">for</a> what seem like ages but having secured a deal with THINKFilm we expect there to be a trailer and release date soon.

Its been accepted into the 2008 Miami International Film Festival, to be held in Miami, February 28 - March 9, 2008. Festival program details will be announced in mid-to-late January.

In this bittersweet coming-of-age story – told from the present, but set in the swinging '70s – 17-year old Jake Stein (Frankie Muniz), an aspiring writer, moves from his Brooklyn home to Miami to live with his gambler father (Harvey Keitel) who abandoned Jake and his mother years earlier.

Surrounded by wealthy and glamorous South Beach-types, Jake is taken under the wing of a famous model (Amber Valletta) who is as fed up with the high life as Jake is attracted to it. Their friendship – and what it leads to – is just one of the many transforming experiences that provide Jake with material for "My Sexiest Year," the best-selling book that he will write years later about that unforgettable time.

I found this video shot on the set of the film "My sexiest year" ...

this is the link:

Thanks for the video, MaricaInTheMiddle. :) Sadly, there is still no word from ThinkFilm as to a release date for the film. There were rumors about a month ago that the film would go straight to DVD with a August/September release but there was no official word from the studio.

Will keep everyone posted if I hear anything.

It doesnt sound funny at all. Maybe it is to sappy. it sounds exactly like the type of movie that nobody actually goes to see yet they give oscars to for being artistic.

I have some news, unconfirmed as of yet, but this is the latest.

The film will not be released in theaters, to the best of my knowledge. It's set for a direct-to-DVD release, either through a company called Image Entertainment, or more likely, InternationalMedia Global Limited Home Entertainment.

There is a possible (again, NOT confirmed) DVD release date of 11/11/08, but nothing is official on that and even if true, could well change.

Below is the very first poster for the film, courtesy of IM Global Entertainment. This is the largest version of the poster currently available. Below the poster is another plot synopsis for the film, also courtesy of IM Global.

Plot summary:

Aspiring teen writer Jack Stein (Frankie Muniz) lives with his sick mother and grandfather in Brooklyn. When his mother's health takes a turn for the worse, Jack is sent to Miami to live with his dissolute father Zowie (Harvey Keitel). Zowie is not much of a dad, and Jack quickly befriends Mark, a local rich kid, who lives in the fast lane, where Jack is introduced to a whole new world of sex and drugs. But when he meets glamorous model Marina (Amber Valletta), she teaches him more about life then he expected to find out when he arrived in Miami, an innocent child. By the time he leaves Miami the young teen has become a man, who learns who he is in the course of his sexiest year.

My Sexiest Year will be released on DVD in the UK on September 29th. The film has secured UK DVD distributor DNC Entertainment for the release.

The film is available for pre-order HERE.

Here's a larger version of the poster from my earlier post:

Still no word on a US release date. The US distributor, THINKFilm, is involved in some legal issues which are affecting a theatrical release as well as preventing the film being released by any DVD distributors in the states.

I'm afraid, to the best of my knowledge, the film is currently shelved indefinitely.

A bit of good news for those folks, such as myself, who have been waiting for quite some time now to see this film.

The US DVD distributor of My Sexiest Year, Image Entertainment, recently submitted the film to the MPAA here in the US for it to be given a rating. They gave the film a 'R' rating, which was announced today. Still no word on a release date but I'd say 3rd or 4th quarter of this year is likely.

Sadly though, this would seem to indicate that the film is definitely going straight to DVD, rather than having a theatrical release. That's unfortunate but at least it shouldn't be too much longer before we'll be able to see Frankie in what sounds to be a fairly major role.
