Cuba: Countdown to Democracy!

I don't know if you guys have heard, but Fidel Castro, the Communist leader of Cuba, is extremely ill right now, and just the other day he "temporarily" gave power over to his younger brother. Now, whilst I don't wish Fidel death or anything like that, it is an exciting time for the Cuban people, because they have waited many, many years for Castro's demise so they would have a chance to strive for democracy, and the Cuban government has said that if Fidel dies soon, they want to leave communism for a democratic government!:)
Anyway, Ill keep checking the news for developments and post them here. What do you guys think on this matter(NO political debates, please. I don't want that BS started here on this thread)?

I just find it amazing that he's been in power since 1959 when Dwight D. Eisenhower was president! :D It would be great if the Cuban people finally get democracy, but I don't really see it happening with Fidel's brother taking over. His brother likely shares the same beliefs and will rule the country the same way that he does.

Not exactly. From what I have heard, Fidel's brother is not nearly as tough or willed as Fidel was, and Fidel's brother has almost zero support from the other leaders in the government(they all are ready for a democratic Cuba, from what Ive learned). So there is a very good chance that when Fidel passes, the Cuban people will finally be free.:)

I've heard that Fidel definitely wants to come back, if he's in able to do it.
I also think that democracy would help Cuba, and if Fidel isn't in power anymore, they could start to cooperate with the US.
I've heard in the news that a lot of cuban emigrants, who are living in Florida right now, are very happy about Fidel being sick because they blame him to ruin Cuba.

How could you start a political thread and not want a debate? :D For the sake of debate, I think Castro is a great guy. He protects his people and must be doing something right--I mean, he's held his power since Eisenhower was President. And all that the US could muster in retailliation was the Bay of Pigs invasion. How sad is that!

I never said Castro was evil or anything. I mean, I don't hear reports coming out of Cuba saying he tortures people and kills his people(like Saddam Hussein did). It's just Castro has held down the Cuban people with Communism and I think they are ready to break free.

Or maybe they appreciated the advantages that communism has over democracy. After all, it ensures everyone has a job, food, and a place to sleep.

Lol! Oh man, Sam, just wait until J finds out you support communism.:D You better get ready for a war with him, man.;) :D

Facism and communism aren't that different. It's not like he's a facist and I'm an anarchist--now those are complete opposites! And just for the record, I support democracy--my comments, as I mentioned, were for the sake of debate. Sometimes it's good to fight for a side you don't believe is right.

I do.

Christina, The US government is currently going to (once it passes the house and senate, which it should) "give" $80 million to help dissendents in Cuba. Which means, we're buying AK-47's, RPG's, and maybe a few T-72's and sending it to Cuba to start a revoloution... that should work, becuause the iron communist grip has been weakened, and should make the neumber of communist nations go from 5 to 4 (N. Korea, China, Laos, Vietnam) which are all in Asia.

Either way, facists despise communists, because.... well, facists hate all of them, Democrats, Socialists, Communists, Libertarians, Centerists, Anarcists, and Nazis, and we give a little love to the Republicans, they're kinda cool, but worthless in the long run.

Sam's a commie!!!! He's a no-good sub-human commie!!!!! Ye-haw!! :D

I knew J wasn't mature enough to handle this responsibly. If you ask me this "plan" sounds like another Bay of Pigs fiasco.

Lol, all J's plans are Bay of Pigs fiascos.:D ;) I kid, J.
And Sam, why is it sometimes good to fight for a side you don't think is right? :D

What do you mean, I'm immature, this is going on, right now, in the house(or senate, I forget). No,lie, the US gov't is going to sned $80 million to Cuba to help dissendents, if you don't believe me, go suck an egg for all I care.

Yes, Sam, why IS it good to stand up for Communism? Even though it FAILED in just a measly 70 years, while our Democracy lasted over 200, and monarchs for 500's (or more)

It is sometimes good to fight for the side you disagree with, in this communism, if it is taken as an educational exercise. It helps you to learn about the other side of the problem and in turn understand the entire issue more clearly. Sometimes, you may even change your mind--and for those you immature little rascals, I don't plan on changing my mind and becoming commie. Point is, sometimes you're required to fight for a side you disagree with so knowing how is a good thing.
