View Full Version : The Never-ending RATE-A-EPISODE Thread

Mr Forum
Jul 3, 2006, 03:24 PM
Hey, now that the show is over (and what a run it had), I want to know what you guys thought of the episodes. So, I have created this never-ending thread. Here's how it works, I will kick things off by stating the name of an episode. Then the first post will rate that episode out of 10, say what they liked/disliked about that episode and then state the name of another episode (from all seven seasons) for the next post to rate. So, I'll kick things off...

What do you think of... Rollerskates?

Jul 3, 2006, 03:39 PM
Welcome to the forum, Mr Forum! That's gotta be my favorite username yet--you're going to have to share the story behind that one sometime. :D I moved your thread to Crapopoly Corner, our section for games and things like this.

Anyway, Rollerskates is a classic episode. I liked the lessons, but Lois' storyline was a little boring (although necessary, since Jane was pregnant).

Rating: 7

I absolutely loved the Morp episode. It's in my top ten definately. My favorite part was the Hal, Lois and Dewey storyline. Poor Dewey! Seeing Hal naked in the kitchen with whipped cream... and then to get kicked out of the house so his mom and dad can have sex. He's seen too much in his short little life.

Rating: 9.5

Ok, next episode... Traffic Ticket

Jul 3, 2006, 05:17 PM
At first, the storyline seemed thin to me, but it DID go places, and the ending was particulary good with the tape being demolished, and them all surronding Craig, threantenly...(I hope that was a word).

Burning Man.

Jul 3, 2006, 05:34 PM
Burning Man is special to me :) because it was the last time we will ever see a new episode at the start of a new series...I also like it because its funny how Hal and Lois totally bust Malcolm and Reese and suggest they all go together...so il give it...

Next episode is...

Halloween Approximately

I love it when Hal's in the car waiting with a cigar and coffee...then falls asleep!

Jul 4, 2006, 03:02 AM
Boys - LOL. Hal/Lois - Hilarious. 9/10.

Dewey's Opera

Jul 4, 2006, 07:11 AM
It was really nice to see Dewey's musical talent. Unfortunately I didn't like Lois' and Hal's plot too much. On the other hand seeing Stevie and Malcolm racing against each other was a lot of fun.

All together I'd give it 6.5 out of 10.

Next episode: Reese's job

Jul 4, 2006, 10:14 AM
I liked the genius kid in it, as he was smarter than Malcolm, and have always been a fan of Francis' friend.

Red Dress.

Jul 4, 2006, 02:19 PM
Two words to sum up Red Dress: Pure Genius!

This is absolutely one of the best episodes of the entire series. The writing was brilliant and I loved the conflict between Lois and her boys.

Rating: 10/10

Next Episode: Chad's Sleepover

Jul 5, 2006, 04:32 PM
Rating 8/10

Lois Birthday

Lois Makeover

Just watched it on Sky One :)

Jul 7, 2006, 06:34 PM
I want to remind players that the original instructions to this game said that you are to rate it, tell what you liked and didn't like about it, and choose the next episode. Please be sure you're doing all of that. :)

Jul 8, 2006, 12:53 AM
I didn't really care for the Lois plot (ho-hum to me); but the boys and Hal's part was dead funny, especially at the end!

Next, Zoo.

Jul 16, 2006, 08:38 AM
So funny. I loved reese's fight with the goat and where Lois hears that two boy where trpped int he tiger pen she says " Malcolm & Reese? No Malcolm and dewey Reese wouldnt last 30 seconds"

Next: Bully

Jul 22, 2006, 09:46 PM
7/10. I liked how Reese got put in his place by the girl, and how Malcolm finally learned what people thought about him.

Next: House boat

Jul 22, 2006, 10:30 PM
5/10. This episode was ok, but it could have been better. It was funny when Malcolm thought he had, for lack of a better word, "one-upped" Reese and Stevie since he and Hal had the dinghy, then we see Reese and Stevie paddling off on another boat thingy.

Next: Dewey's Special Class

Aug 7, 2006, 07:38 PM
"Dewey's Special Class" was kind of fun to see how Dewey was sort of like another Malcolm, but how diffrent it turned out. It was great to see how they tried to keep it away from Lois but everything kept messing up. Then finally they think it's all figured out and Dewey tells, that was hillarious. But it could've been better in some areas, it seemed a little plain and boring compared to most episodes. The end was the high point to me. A small bit over average even though alot of the episodes were better. I'd give it about a 6/10.

Traffic Jam

Aug 7, 2006, 11:14 PM
"Traffic Jam" was, in my opinion, one of the best episodes of season 2. VERY funny is the word for everyone's plots. Lois going crazy! Malcolm meeting a girl just like him! Reese trying his absolute hardest to get ice cream! Dewey trying to get back home!:D ABCD! ABCD! ABCD!:D Anyways, I thought Lois had the plot that shined in this episode. It's a rare instance when she can't control what's going on. And, of course, she goes nuts.:D
RATING: 9.5/10

NEXT: (one of my fav. episodes of the show!) Burning Man! :)

Aug 12, 2006, 08:22 PM
Erm id give that 8/10, i loved it at the time, because well it had been so long without mitm and it was the season 7 premiere so...but it was good, it could of been better.

Next: Experiment

Aug 13, 2006, 01:43 AM
It was cool because you never would've thought Reese of all people would end up making things work. The whole time how Dewey manipulated everyone was cool too. It was a bit too boring though when it came to the scenes with Malcolm and Stevie trying to figure out how Reese seperated the stuff. Not sure why but it was so I guess I'd give it a.... Seven outta' ten. 7/10 =)

Next:Hal's Birthday

Aug 23, 2006, 08:40 PM
Hal's Birthday gets a 9/10

The best part of the episode was the boys' plot. With a common enemy/complaint, they actually can be nice to each other every once in a while, which is good to know. Piama's intro, however sudden, also helped reaffirm that Francis hadn't really changed at all -- he's still quick to act and slow to think, as usual.

I didn't really have any problems with the episode, except for maybe how Piama and Lois don't get along, and that makes for some very good humor later.

Next Episode: Ida's Dance

Aug 23, 2006, 10:06 PM
Ida's Dance is not one of my favorite episodes, but it wasn't bad either. The part with Lois stomping on the tart was funny though. I didn't really care for the part where Malcolm wanted Dewey to teach him about music, but their storyline got better when they each became deaf. The part with Ida and Lois dancing at the end was just weird.

Next episode: Cynthia's Back.

May 29, 2007, 06:41 AM
Cynthia's Back: 7/10
This episode was pretty cool, Reese was funny when he tries to be friends with her for the wrong reasons. Cynthia annoyed me though because she was soo depressing and moody at the start of the episode.

Next episode: Acedemic Octathalon

May 29, 2007, 05:15 PM
I felt that Academic Octathalon was a very weak episode. The Hal/Dewey storyline was just okay, Dewey stopped loving Hal because he wouldn't continue to do "bedtime express" because Dewey was getting too big. I also didn't understand why Lois wasn't pregnant, when in the episodes previous to it she was. The only thing I can think of was that the episodes were shown out of production order. My favorite part of the episode was when they made Dabney stand outside the hotel room door in a bathing suit so the maid would unlock it.

Next episode: Carnival

Jun 5, 2007, 09:58 PM
Hal Coaches-6/10 i didnt find anything interesting in this episode. its been a while since i watched but Hals coaching part of the episode was stupid O_o. He tricked the kids into beating the other team.

Very interesting! I just scanned through the ep and noticed that whenever we see Lois, her midsection is either hidden behind something or obscured in darkness - perhaps whatever prosthesis that was used for the "pregnant" look was somehow out of comission or damaged?

Carnival was not one of my favourite episodes. The Lois/Hal "sex" scenes, if you will, were fairly funny, as was Kitty's outbursts in the car. The boys, however, were pretty bland.

Nice that they recruited the eye-popping lady, though!

No episode given so I'll shuffle for it

I got 51 which is Lois' Makeover

Not one of MITM's best moments to be honest. In ran to the end of a short stream of mediocre episodes around this time in Season 3, starting with Poker. To start with, the cold opener is less of a joke than an observation with very little comedy involved (The Leftover Parfait one if you're curious.) It is one of the few episodes in which Craig features in which he does not show any major quirky sides to his character and remains quite plain throughout. Lois is played quite forgettably (It seems like Jane Kaczmarek really couldn't be bothered on the week of filming it) with her character not being as "caring" as usual. Throughout the episode she just has random fits of anger and shows no deeper levels emotion than just plain angry. The quality of the main plotline is poor and shows a similar writing style to that of the first 9 episodes and has many massive crevices. As with the majority of the Alaska plotlines, I did not like the rat capturing story. Throughout season 3 I think the writers got bored of Francis giving him few plausible and funny situations to work in (Christmas and Company Picnic were bearable, but that's about it.) You might think as so far I've been pretty scathing I might have some good things to say about the basketball story, the truth is however, I don't. Dewey is played pretty badly and Reese has about 4 lines in the entire episode. All of the aspects of it (Hal ignoring his sons, hustling, Dewey having a hidden talent, basketball, the boys defying Hal) are done in other episodes, each time with more commitment and gusto. Also, the soliloquise are totally unneeded throughout. I do have some good things to say about this episode however. The Lois plotline come to very solid conclusion (much moreso than many other episodes) and ended in a nice one-liner. The fact that the actors involved could actually play basketball with a fair amount of skill added to the believability of the whole affair, and as usual, Bryan Cranston played absolutely impeccably and made the episode actually quite enjoyable to watch (although this does apply to every other MITM episode other than the first 9)

My final score is: 5.5/10, probably in the worst 15/10% of post 109 episodes

Next: Clip Show 2

Chunky Malcolm
Jun 2, 2012, 01:34 PM
Hi guys! I started a new rate an episode thread. I'm not trying to steal Mr. Forum's idea, but just creating a new one, seeing as the old hasn't been used in a year or so. Directions: I'll name an episode, and you rate it on a scale of 1 to 10. After you've rated an episode, name another one for someone else to rate. I'll start with... Family Reunion.

Nov 25, 2012, 02:57 PM
8 out of 10

I love the end of this episode which is why my rate is rather high. I love "What are you going to do?" "We don't know. We never know."

This episode shows that when a member of the family is abused in one way or another "(by someone other than another family member) anything goes to protect them. Everyone in the family loves eachother.

Not sure what has been done before so I'm sorry if this is a repeat-

Stupid Girl

Jul 19, 2015, 07:07 AM
It's uncharacteristic for Malcolm to be nonchalant...and happy. It had a great storyline, good dialouge, and good acting, but it seemed unnatural for Malcolm's character to just shut off his brain. Meh. A good episode, and classic.
