Romance and Cigarettes will be opening in an exclusive engagement at the New York City Film Forum on September 7, 2007.

[See Front Page Post for Video]

Romance and Cigarettes is a film which Justin co-produced a few years back. It is a comedy-musical and has an all star cast including James Gandolfini, Susan Sarandon, Kate Winslet, Mandy Moore, Steve Buscemi, Christopher Walken and Mary Louise-Parker.

The film has already been released in the UK and a few other countries however it hasn't yet been released in the US. Aside from a screening at the Avignon/New York Film Festival in 2006, the film hasn't screened in the states before now.

Oh god, is Justin's production company doing ok? They seem to have a hard time getting movies they produced to be released. They however do fine with producing for TV. Well I guess doing it for TV is easier then for film.

I hope they get more successful. Maybe they need a veteran movie producer to join the team? I dont know.

Well it's about time! :D To be honest, I thought it already had been released but I guess I didn't realize that it never had been in the States. Thanks for the news Rye.

Yes, J2 Pictures/J2TV is doing very well, with a number of projects in the works. :) This film is not a J2 project, actually. This is a film which Justin co-produced, but not through his company.

No problem! :)

It was set to be released quite awhile ago, but the acquisition of MGM/United Artist's, the films original distributor, by Sony held up the release.

That didn't affect a UK release and a few other countries as well were not affected by it either, and the film was released in theaters in those countries and then on DVD. :)

I'm not so sure. Looks like it is struggling to have a succesful release of any its projects.

I would have to disagree. To date, J2 has only had one other project ready for release and that was the TV series, Filthy Rich:Cattle Drive, which was released back in the summer of 2005. All of their other projects, and there are many of them, are still in various stages of development. More info will be released on those projects as it becomes available.

As for the "news" item you link to, I can't comment one way or the other, except to say it's never the best idea to trust anonymous sources.

We can't really comment on Blonde Ambition until we've seen it but that's not the first negative review I've heard about it. How long does it really take J2 to get a project from the conception stage to the distribution stage? Years seems like a long time.

It does take years. You have to remember J2 is just starting out. They are establishing themselves in the industry now and it takes time and patience to do so. They have to connect with studios, other producers and perhaps even other production companies affiliated with distributors while getting projects off the ground and into development and eventually into the theaters. If a project is filmed but does not yet have a distributor attached, then you have to also factor in festival screenings. It can be 1 to 2 additional years after the film is first screened at a festival before it secures a distribution deal and gets a theatrical and/or DVD release.

There's just so many variables you have to factor in, it's difficult to answer this question with certainty, other than to say it can take a long time.

But, Justin is committed to producing and no matter how long it takes, I'm sure the projects they have in the works are going to be awesome when they are released. :)

yeah you are 100% right rye. On my first post here, i sort of forgotten how new the company is. But in good time will come good things for J2 :)

I wish him the best and hope J2 does well. A few of the projects in the works sound pretty interesting. I just don't think there is any evidence it is going well so far. Mediocre (or possibly failed) releases probably arent enough to make a profit for a production company.

I'm routing for J2 to do well, but they certainly do appear to be struggling a bit to make things work. I hope they keep at it and the future holds tremendous successes. :thumbup1:

Wow, I never realized how long the process really took. Especially for a new company. At least one of his projects is reaching fruition. :)

just a little FYI. the source link no longer work since the new domain is celebrityloop.com (redirect from the main page works, but direct links to boards and posts seem to not work)

Source is: http://boards.celebrityloop.com/showthread.php?t=75783

Yeah that's probably not a good thing. :D Celebrity Loop does seem to be a more descriptive title for the site than Safe Searching, but Rye, you may want to suggest a more complete forwarding system to the new domain since you have connectinos over there. There are numerous links here on this site, and certainly Google has many indexed as does the official forums. It would be impossible to change all the links but certainly relatively easy to set up a little forwarding.

yeah, forward everything in the main directory of safesearching to the directory of celebrityloop

i believe a simple forward in .htaccess if Apache is used.

Thanks guys. I'll be speaking with one of our programmers tomorrow morning about a few issues and I will bring this up and see if it would be possible. It may well be something they are already working on, I'm not sure.
