Malcolm in the Middle was featured on the animated TV show Family Guy (which is often referred to as a ‘Dysfunctional Family’ like the Wilkersons). The episode titled I Take Thee, Quagmireaired March 12, 2006 (Season 4 Episode 21) and the Malcolm in the Middle scene was (in usual Family Guy style) unrelated to the rest of the episode and played as Brian (the Family Guy dog) is watching TV.
Bryan Cranston voiced the animated Hal, however Seth MacFarlane the series creator said in the DVD commentary for the episode that Jane Kaczmarek was asked to do the voice as she was the original actor in the series, however she refused. MacFarlane said that he gets a message that Kaczmarek wishes to portray that character as likeable, and does not wish to jeopardize that.

FINALES: Even in the world of television all good things must come to an end - from the hit shows that go out with a bang, to the series that are quietly canceled there’s always a story behind the send-off. This episode looks at the shows that got to say good-bye, some that didn’t and some that said good-bye, and then unexpectedly got stays of “cancellation” and returned from the dead. What finale was originally planned for The Mary Tyler Moore Show? How did Bob Newhart kept the secret of his final Newhart episode? Viewers will also get an exclusive set visit to the finale of Malcolm In The Middle.
My very first feature parody for (MAD) magazine was “Malcolm in the Middle”. I was contacted by a representative of the actor who played the dad (Bryan Cranston) on the show who was interested in buying the original art. I quoted a reasonable price for it but they never called me back. In the ensuing conversation I was told the actor that played the title character of Malcolm, Frankie Muniz, didn’t like his caricatures…… I haven’t lost any sleep over that.
What do you think Malcolm is saying to each of the family members (and Stevie)?
Here’s mine: Malcolm to Reese: Open your eye’s or you’ll miss him!

Research from Department of Psychology at University College London says that advertisers will sell more stuff if their commercials run during innocuous family-fare programmes rather than sexually charged shows, suggests the new research into the effects of erotic programming on viewers’ response to ads.
The implication is that advertisers do not spend their money well if they buy space during programmes with high sexual content.
The studies involved 60 university students (30 men and 30 women) aged 18 to 31, mean age 21, who were divided into four groups. One group saw an overtly sexual episode of “Sex and The City”, which had sexy adverts running during the programme breaks. Another saw the same episode with non-sexual adverts. The other two groups saw an episode of “Malcolm in the Middle” which contained no sexual references, with either sexual or non-sexual adverts.
Brand recall for advertisements was ‘hindered’ by sexual content of programmes, suggesting there is something particularly involving or disturbing about sexual programmes.
The band who created the ever catchy “Boss of Me” song for Malcolm in the Middle are back with a new album.
When not busy making children’s albums or writing TV theme songs, They Might Be Giants still find time to work on new records.
The Else, the band’s twelfth album in 25 years, will be released July 10. The record was produced by the Dust Brothers and Patrick Dillett.
In addition to the previous 11 albums, the band is known for writing the theme songs for The Daily Show with Jon Stewart and Malcolm in the Middle, which won a Grammy in 2002. TMBG will hit the road for most of the rest of this month making their way around America.
