Jane Kaczmarek is to star in director Nicholas Martin’s new production of John Guare’s The House of Blue Leaves, to open the newly renovated Mark Taper Forum in Los Angeles. After a year-long $30 million renovation, the new Taper will re-light with Blues Leaves previews starting August 30 toward an opening of September 14. The dark comedy about American dreamers in Sunnyside, Queens, will continue through October 19.
Jane spoke at the opening night of her husbands (Bradley Whitford) new adaptation of Boeing-Boeing
“I’m going to be doing House of Blue Leaves at the newly refurbished Mark Taper Forum — Kate Burton and I, in September. I’m Bunny, and she’s Bananas. Kate and I were roommates together at Yale Drama School, and now our daughters are in the fourth grade at the same school in Los Angeles, and, after all these years, we’re back together again. Nicky Martin is directing it.”
“Bradley’s so well known on ‘The West Wing’ for being a serious actor, but he is a huge comic ham, and he’s very physical. There’s one time where he was doing a gorilla banging on his chest. Impersonating animals is one of the best things he got out of Juilliard. Thank God, it’s come in handy.”
Jane also attended the My Fair Lady premiere in April.

At the panel, Michael Wright, senior vice president of Turner Entertainment Networks’ Content Creation Group, said that legal, medical and police shows all entail strong characters and conflict, which makes for good dramatic fodder for the network.
