Frankie Muniz (Malcolm) and Mystery Girl [Video]

Frankie Muniz is seen here in this video picking up a girl after having come out of Cafe Med and chatted briefly to the paparazzi. The girl seems to be a little camera shy.

Frankie Muniz’s ‘My Sexiest Year’ Review

Frankie Muniz in My Sexiest Year My Sexiest Year is a film starring Frankie Muniz and has been long awaited. It recently premièred and here is the first review.

A ’70s-set flashback to a teen’s sexual initiation by a beautiful, compassionate older woman, “My Sexiest Year” smacks of the 70s (”Summer of ‘42,” anyone?), before such delicate vignettes were torpedoed in the ’80s by “Fast Times at Ridgemont High” and even the raucous, ostensibly ’50s-set “Porky’s.” Uneasily combining Neil Simon-esque childhood memoir with contempo puberty comedy, helmer-scribe Howard Himelstein’s nostalgic wallow is rescued by the considerable talents of its colorful cast. Still, the flaccid ThinkFilm pickup may flounder with the under-60 set.

Click ‘more’ to continue reading.

Seventeen-year-old budding writer Jake (Frankie Muniz, in a sweeter, less ironically dysfunctional variation on his titular “Malcolm in the Middle” persona) is sent to Miami by his secretly ill mother (Frances Fisher, evoking an entire loving Brooklyn childhood in a few short scenes) to stay with his estranged dad Zowie (Harvey Keitel), a feckless racetrack handicapper.

En route south, Jake is befriended by a perpetually high rich kid (Ryan Cabrera), who introduces Jake to the affluent “in” crowd at school as the son of a famous racehorse owner. Unable to come clean, the modest Brooklyn boy is soon respected by all, though he neither smokes, drinks nor drawls.

Meanwhile, on the beach, a group of international models have set up a shoot, including blonde beauty Marina (a luminous Amber Valletta), whose drop-dead good looks are matched only by her melancholy kindness. Responding to Jake’s innate chivalry, Marina soon takes him under her wing and into her bed, fulfilling his every fantasy, particularly when she shows up at school the next day for a farewell kiss.

Pic is an odd mishmash of motley ingredients from disparate genres and different eras. Zowie, sinking under a streak of bad luck, struts his dignity in Damon Runyon-esque run-ins with an old loan-shark pal and his disrespectful minions. Keitel’s slow conversion — from fear that his kid may be “light in the loafers” to admiration for his talent — profits greatly from the actor’s obvious enjoyment of his character’s comically swaggering obtuseness.

Marina and her fellow models conjure softcore sexploitation flicks, while the high school kids rep an idle rich defined solely by clothes, cars and drugs. And Jake’s sensitive writer could have sprung from any decade.

When pic stays securely locked inside its flashback, its male-fantasy anomalies remain fairly innocuous. The same can’t be said of its framing present-tense story, in which Jake is now a bestselling author.

Tech credits suffer slightly from pic’s uncertain period reconstruction.

Create a Horror Film with Bryan Cranston!

halAn update on Bryan’s official site:

So you say you want to make a movie?
I’m working with the Internet web site www.netstudio.tv to develop a short film. We’ve decided we want to make this short film in the Horror genre, and we’re looking for ideas.

It’s actually a contest. If you send in the ideas that we use, you can win cash and prizes.

Contestants can enter at any stage of the contest. Right now we’re at Stage One: The Pitch. THE DEADLINE FOR THIS FIRST PITCH IS OCTOBER 31 MIDNIGHT.[The deadline now seems to be in around 3 days] The deadlines for the following phases will be announced at a later date.

I’m the project’s showrunner. That means I’ll be coordinating the contest and writing the final script. If my schedule permits, I’d like to direct the short film…maybe even act in it.

The finished product will be broadcast on www.netstudio.tv It costs nothing to enter the contest. Please check out the site and go to “fright site.” If you’ve got a scary idea, I want to hear it!
Happy Haunting,
Bryan

An amazing opportunity for any writers!

Jane Kaczmarek (Lois) ‘Clothes Off Our Backs’ Update

Jane Kaczmarek (Lois)We have some what neglected to comment on all the recent action going on the over at Clothes Off Our Backs. If you don’t know it’s a charity auctioning site founded by Jane Kaczmarek and her husband Bradley Whitford. The main focus is on celebrity items of clothing but they do branch out into other areas.

They completed their 6th Annual Emmy Auction last month, and have recently auctioned celebrity designed lingerie, including some designed by Jane herself raising $120,000. You can still bid on a corset designed by Jane here, and see photos below.

Here Jane talks about her work in the charity:

Designed by Jane Designed by Jane

“I love to steam them and put them in boxes,” Kaczmarek said about the auction items. “Someone told me that Kaczmarek means custodian in Polish, and I really love that end of it. I know it sounds kind of odd, but I really love ironing. And I love making it look really, really beautiful, so when they open up the box they’ve got a gorgeous dress and beautiful, colored tissue paper.”

It’s not all dresses, either. There’s furniture from Architectural Digest’s greenroom at the Emmy Awards. Kaczmarek has her eye on two green Holmby chairs. “I love them,” she said. “I thought I’d wait until the last minute to see if anybody moves on those and go in on that, because that stuff is gorgeous.”

Kaczmarek and Whitford’s oldest child, daughter Frances, is 10, and I asked if she has them bidding on things for her. Nope.

“She’s a very modest child,” Kaczmarek said. “I never have tabloids around the house, and they really don’t know who anybody is. We only have one TV in the house.”

Jane and Bradley have been honoured for the charity work:

Sam Nicholson’s Mediterranean villa in Pasadena was the setting for the second year for the annual benefit concert for Grace Center.

More than 200 guests turned out for the glamorous Casablanca-themed evening honoring actress Jane Kaczmarek and her husband, actor Bradley Whitford, for their community activism. The San Marino couple has supported several local philanthropies including the center, a Pasadena-based sanctuary for victims of domestic violence.
